Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI): Free Meter Installer Training for 5,000 Nigerian Youths
The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has launched the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI) to train and certify 5,000 Nigerian youths as professional meter installers and electrical house wiring technicians.
This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to eliminate estimated electricity billing by addressing the country’s metering deficit, currently estimated at over 7 million meters.
Why This Training Matters
Nigeria currently has an insufficient number of certified meter installers to meet the growing demand for electricity metering nationwide. To bridge this gap, the government aims to expand the national pool of certified installers, enabling faster meter deployment across the country within the next two years.
Successful participants will:
- – Receive professional training in Meter Installation and Electrical House Wiring.
- – Be trained by the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN).
- – Obtain certification from the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).
